BOOKS, NEWSLETTERS, CATALOGUES
Much of my work involves every aspect of a publication from photography to copywriting to layout design and print – and you will need to flick through every page to get the feel of my design capabilities.
That is what ISSUU.com allows you to do – click here to go to a gallery of all the publications that I have uploaded – then click on the publication you’re interested in and you can browse through every page of the document. Here’s some quick examples of my more recent work…
PRESS GANG “Is the BBC…?” This 16pp publication written by investigative journalist, Paddy French, was published as a pre-cursor to a planned much larger book. It had to be produced to a strict deadline and it was distributed to every MP and all leading political columnists in the national media. It created a great furore and at the moment it is the subject of a controversial court case that I cannot comment on. The book, which goes deeper into the story than this small document, is more or less complete but it cannot be published due to the legalities involved with this publication. And for that reason I am not allowed to show it publicly, which is a shame because it looks pretty cool.
TUDOR BREWERY needed a brochure to show off their product range – they attend country markets and craft fairs and use brochures and leaflets to entice customers to their products. Tudor supplied the photographs, although some photographs had to be created using Photoshop. I wrote the text (using copy from their website as a basis), designed the layout and arranged the final print. This example is the second version of this leaflet – some products had been dropped and new ones included.
PRESS GANG. Another book by investigative journalist Paddy French. It was sponsored by some like-minded organisations and the design had to fit in with some design guidelines already established. All text and photos were supplied by the author and I needed to be heavily involved in the editorial process to decide where photos, captions, ragouts etc. were positioned. I also had to create a photo-montage graphic to precede each section. Again this book was distributed to all MPs and leading political columnists and there was a major reaction to the subject matter it contains.
WSSCSW. My wife, Sue, and I own three Welsh Springer Spaniels and we are part of the South Wales Club. Together we produce this publication every year – Sue sells advertising space in it to help fund it – we edit or write the text – gather together photos – create the adverts – prepare all files for print – and help with the final distribution to club members.
JARROLD PUBLISHING. I was commissioned to design the complete layout of this 72 page guidebook with text and photographs supplied by the publishers – I had to adhere to certain house styles and the publication went through several drafts before it was finalised to print. The guide is on sale at the venue in several languages. I can’t show you the complete publication here due to copyright. The cover changed after this example and the title “Hatfield House” was die-stamped and blocked in silver.
RAPPORT. I produced the catalogues of MA Rapport’s prestigious products for over 25 years. I photographed all the products myself either at my home based studio or I would set up studio at the client’s premises. The nature of the products also demanded a great deal of post-production work. We procured the print and guided each catalogue through the entire print process and every catalogue had to reflect the high value and quality of the products.

I was also called upon to create advertisements using much of the material used in the catalogues
BEARMACH. I produced catalogues, advertising, exhibitions and other promotional products for BEARMACH Ltd for over 20 years. BEARMACH was a world leading supplier of parts and accessories for land Rover vehicles. We procured the print and guided each catalogue through the entire print process and many of their publications had to be produced in up to six languages for distribution worldwide.
